Kisses for everyone. For your family, your friends, your loves, for those you've just met... Kisses are part of everyday life. Even science guarantees that a gesture as simple as this can bring numerous benefits to a person.
Physically? Kissing passionately can help you burn up to 100 calories per minute. And defenses? Each kiss helps strengthen the immune system. Kissing even works wonders for self-esteem, as it helps boost self-esteem and lower cortisol levels, the stress hormone.
But despite being such a common display of affection, it is still something special, a show of affection between people that undoubtedly deserves to be celebrated. And it seems that people around the world agree, which is why International Kissing Day has been celebrated for 13 years on April 13th.
We know there are international days for almost everything, but did you know why International Kissing Day is celebrated? The answer lies on February 14, 2011, when in Thailand a kissing contest was held for Valentine's Day.
One of the couples that participated took it so seriously that they set the world record for the longest kiss, maintaining that contact for 46 hours, 24 minutes, and 9 seconds. But, not satisfied with that, they broke their own record in 2013 with a kiss lasting 58 hours, 35 minutes, and 58 seconds. Undoubtedly, a milestone to be commemorated.
Kisses are everywhere! And some have gone down in history. Like, for example, the one the Russian artist Dimitri Vrubel painted on the Berlin Wall, starring the president of the German Democratic Republic, Erich Honecker, and the Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev.
The cinema has also given us great kisses that have moved everyone, like the one Noah and Allie share in the rain in the movie "The Notebook." Undoubtedly, one of the most romantic kisses on celluloid.
And lastly, one that will be known to many, as it automatically became part of Spain's history. The one between Iker Casillas and Sara Carbonero after the victory of the Spanish national team in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Celebrate International Kissing Day? Of course! You can celebrate with your friends by spending a fun afternoon or evening at a café or enjoying the sun in the park while sharing confidences. You can't go wrong with a casual and comfortable look, like jeans and a T-shirt with an adorable print.
You can also celebrate by having a romantic date with your partner at your favorite spot, going to the movies to see that film you've been waiting for, or taking a stroll around the city. A printed maxi dress with a knit cardigan and sneakers or ballet flats can be the perfect outfit for an occasion like this.
And if you're just going to stay home celebrating International Kissing Day with your family, you can always shower them with kisses while wearing a sweatshirt and sweatpants because showing your love is not synonymous with comfort.
